Your Steps to a Scholarship

Follow these steps carefully, and you may be on your way to a scholarship in the USA as a university student and volleyball player.

Step 1:  Send information about yourself to AVSR by filling in the Application form.

   . . . and this will happen:
   •  AVSR will contact you to ask for more information and answer your questions.
   •  Next, AVSR might arrange to see you play to evaluate your talents and skills.
   •  If you have elite abilities, AVSR will publish a report about you for university coaches.
   •  After coaches read the report about you, some will contact you by email, post, or telephone.

Step 2:  Learn about exams you must take to qualify for a scholarship (see Required Exams).

Step 3:  Respond to coaches who contact you.  Learn about their teams and schools.  Email is a good way to respond.  Communicating with coaches is very important!

Step 4:  Register for examinations you must take.  When you communicate with coaches, ask them what exams their schools require.  Coaches will help you learn about the exams, where to take them, how to register, and how to prepare.

Step 5:  Continue communicating with coaches by email, online chat, post, or phone calls.  Learn more about their teams and schools.  Ask coaches if they will offer scholarships to you!

   . . . and this will happen:
   •  Coaches will learn more about you and will decide if they will offer scholarships to you.
   •  Some coaches might travel to your city or town to meet you and watch you play.

Step 6:  Register with the NCAA.  The registration process is necessary for you to play volleyball at an NCAA university.

Step 7:  Take the examinations required by the schools that you are most likely to choose.

   . . . and this will happen:
   •  Some coaches will offer scholarships to you.
   •  You might hear from universities that haven't contacted you before.

Step 8:  Be sure you understand all the details about the scholarship offers.  Some scholarships might not include all your expenses!  Ask coaches if you will need to pay for anything.

Step 9:  You may travel to the USA to visit schools that offer scholarships to you.  Most schools will pay all your expenses for the visits!  You do not need to visit schools, but it can be helpful.

Step 10:  Decide what university or college you will attend.  Sign the Letter of Intent (contract) to accept your scholarship as a student and volleyball player.

Step 11:  Prepare documents required by your school, receive your visa . . . and go to the USA!
